Saturday Street Style: Blind Whino

When I heard about the technicolor church in SW, I knew I HAD to see it. So, I took Saturday Street Style to see the creativity that is behind Blind Whino. The abandoned church was revamped into Blind Whino SW Arts Club to inspire arts and creativity in the DC community, and offers free community arts programs and special events throughout the year. In addition to the buildings full mural wrap outside (painted by Atlanta based artist, HENSE), there are murals inside too (by Australian artist MEGGS). The concept for the building is to, "embrace all things creative with all of its being. As an art object itself, with the exterior fully painted, it serves as a pillar for creativity in our Nation’s Capital," (from Blind Whino's website).

I love artwork and think this is an amazing thing for the community. I personally can't wait to check out some of their events and see the inside of the building- unfortuntely when I was there it was closed, so I'm paitiently awaiting their next event! If you're looking for NYE plans, check out their Studio 54 themed party.

If you plan on visiting- be sure to check out the murals that are at the end of the street behind the church- the bird mural even has mirrored wings!
