"Rain is just confetti from the sky."

Well friends, its that time of year- rain season. There's always a few weeks in the summer-to-fall transition that result in rain, humidity, and more rain (ick!). While I wish that it could just be fall weather already (goodbye summer, hello faux fur and boots!), this transition period is something we all have to deal with and we may as well be stylish while doing so. I know it seems miserable trying to dress for the rain, but thanks to cute rain boots, fun rain coats, and bubble umbrellas we can still be functional AND stylish while taking on the rain. Here are a few pointers on dressing for the rain to turn your rainy day blues into rainy day "oooh's."

1. Rock the Rain Boots Seriously invest in a pair of rain boots ! They will come in way more handy than you may think. I've worn my Hunters in the rain, sleet, snow- you name it, and they've always kept my feet and legs dry. 2. A Fun Rain Jacket I scored this one at Laila Rowe and it was an impulse buy I'm totally glad I bought. Owning a rain jacket has been a life saver and is a staple in any woman's closet. Especially if you take public transportation to work! I like jackets with fun patterns, since they bring life to an outfit when wearing them in the rain. 3. Mix-n-Match Your rain boots or rain coat don't have to be solid. While yes, a solid color will be easier to match in your wardrobe, I like the look of a fun rain jacket (a la statement above), since I normally wear all black, so it brings some depth to the look; or you can mix-n-match prints to make a statement, as I did here. This adds some brightness to an otherwise gloomy day. Not sure how to mix patterns? Take a look at previous blog entry, Pattern Mixology for my guide to mixing patterns.

4. Small Purse It To avoid soaking any of your nicer big purses, wear a smaller one that you can wear under your raincoat or hold under your arm to avoid ruining your purse by rain. A cross body like the one I'm wearing in the pictures is the perfect size to wear under a rain coat and frees up your hands for an umbrella. 5. Look Polished with an Up-do To forgo the "wet rat" look of wet hair after being caught in a rainstorm, wear your hair in an up do. Wearing your hair up will make you look put together and frizz free in the rain! For this look, I used a tutorial from Pinterest and it was very very easy!

6. See Clear

A clear bubble umbrella is another must-have for the commuting girl. Not only does the bubble style keep you fairly dry (for an umbrella), but since its clear you can see through it to avoid bumping into someone on the street while holding it lower to your head, giving you more shelter from the rain. Seriously- you need one of these!
