When creativity calls… ANSWER. 8 years ago, creativity called & I started Blonde in the District. Every year for my blog anniversary I always like to publish a creative post to celebrate. This year, for year 8, one word came to mind as it is emcompasses what I do *and* rhymes with the number 8. CREATE.

One of the questions I get most is “how did you start BITD?” my answer is ‘… I just started.’ I had the urge and the creativity call and I just went with it. I published my blog with one blog post and a handful of images. I didn’t have an idea of where it would take me. I didn’t know much about blogging or curating content. I didn’t know how to monetize or work with brands. But, I figured it out along the way. I’ve stumbled and made wins all at the same time. I’m still learning. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made, though, is starting BITD. Listening to that call for creativity and answering.

Creating doesn’t necessarily have to be about creating content or art. It can be about creating a life you want, creating happiness, creating positive experiences, creating space for others, creating change, creating and cultivating relationships and community. Creating comes in many forms.

In the past 8 years I have found my most creative self thanks to BITD. It has given me the space and courage to create things I never would have imagined, and for that I am beyond greatuful. Most recently I have been called to create drawings which I’ve labeled my ‘Pretty Kitty doodles’ - and while I’m still figuring out if they are just a personal creative outlet for me, or if they are meant for more, I’m still creating them. I decided they would make the purrfect backdrop for this vision as they are something I was called to create, along with BITD. If you take anything away from this post, may it be: ANSWER THOSE CALLS. Create things you love & just do it. You never know where it will take you.
